Yarn Along: Charlie Needs a Cloak, Johnny Needs a Hat
My son lost his hat so I knitted him a new one quickly. I combined two patterns to get the right fit, Ann Budd's Handy Knitter's book and one on knitting for men that I photocopied from the library because I don't like the way Ann Budd does the tops of her hats, they aren't smooth enough. Now I'm working on a simple pair of mittens for the little guy and sticking to the Handy Knitter's pattern. Still contemplating a vest but it gets warm fast in Texas...
Personally, I finished Mansfield Park and read Northanger Abbey this week and enjoyed them both very much. I wanted to share a children's book that I have been reading to the kids, Charlie Needs a Cloak, because it is so much fun! It is a very simple book about a shepherd making a cloak by shearing, washing, carding, spinning, dying, weaving, cutting, and sewing. The illustrations are endearing with a funny little sheep trying to put the wool that was taken off of him back on, and the words are easy to understand. I love how it shows the whole process, it fits well with the little Montessori curriculum that we have going at home here. It's a must read for all kids of knitters, weavers, crocheters, and seamstresses!
